This April, Heather Jacks's art book about the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who turn 40 this year, will hit the shelves. In Part 1, we get to know Heather before she got involved with the Sisters. You'll hear how she grew up on Indian land in Oregon, graduated high school at 16, moved to Australia, joined a fundamentalist Christian church, and eventually ended up in San Francisco about a decade ago.
Heather’s introduction to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence was serendipitous and took place over a couple of decades. In Part 1, we learned of Heather's time with the Christian fundamentalist church in Sacramento. It turns out the Sisters protested Easter service in the capital city during Heather's time there. Fast-forward to this decade: Now back living in the city again, she learned of the amazing charity work that the drag nun group does, and was hooked.
In Part 2, Heather explains the inspiration behind her art book that celebrates 40 years of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. In March and April, you'll hear more about the Sisters directly from three nuns. We recorded this podcast at Heritage Restaurant and Bar in February 2019.

Aloha Jayne! Thank you for taking the time to listen and leave a comment. Do you live in San Francisco? If so, you will have to come to one of our book events. You will dig it. I appreciate your kind words. There are parts of my story that I don't love; but, they are what they are. Yesterday Sister Roma asked me how I felt about the Fundamentalist Church--and do you know; I, like all of us, have some very important lessons to learn in this life--and I am grateful to the Church for teaching me some of them. Hope to see you on the road one day. Cheers!
