Recap: “Every Kinda People” Art Opening 9/4/25

Goddam, I love putting on art shows.

Last week marked the kickoff of Season 8 of this podcast as well as the accompanying art show, Every Kinda People. We held an art opening party at Mini Bar, where the show will be up through October 19.

There are a few things in this life I love more than getting together with folks over art and drinks (and sometimes food). Last week’s opening filled me with so much joy, admiration, and inspiration for what this city can mean to those of us who want to build a future of diversity, equity, and inclusion (not to mention good times and creativity).

“Now” can be a tricky time to navigate, let’s not mince words here. The terrible faucet drip of the last 10 years or so has become something of a Niagara Falls since late-January this year. One of the most effective ways I know to combat that nonsense is to throw parties like this.

Here’s a little peek of Mini Bar right after we finished hanging Every Kinda People:

If you’ve never been to Mini Bar, the place is … wait for it … tiny. It’s right there in the name! But, after talking with owner John Ordoña back in 2023, I learned that from Day 1 a mission of the place is to fill that limited wall space with art, at first from folks living or creating in the surrounding area, and later, more broadly by artists in SF and the greater Bay Area. It doesn’t take too many people for the joint to feel, er, well-attended. And our Every Kinda People was well-attended. Here’s a shot from early in the evening (taken by little ol’ me):

And here are a couple close-ups of art by Storied photographer Nate O. and friend of the show Nate Tan:

I really hope you can make it out to Mini Bar before Oct. 19. Whether you do or not, all art in Every Kinda People is available for sale at the KnownSF website.

Thanks, and I hope to see you around town soon!
